MILA ONE OF 16 DOGS TO QUALIFY FOR THE WIENER NATIONALS

On Saturday, August 20, 2011 Preliminary Races were run at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. Local Ocean Beach resident Mila Miesner, out of a field of 400+ Dachshunds, qualified along with 16 other dachshunds to compete at The Del Mar Race Track to see who the fastest wiener is in San Diego.

Races ran much of the morning starting at 9am and going on until all doxies had at least 2 attempts at a top time. It was fun to see the doxies race.  some shot out straight as an arrow while others took this time to ham it up for the crowd.

When not racing, or if you were a spectator just needing a break from the cuteness on the race field, you could check out some local rescue groups, shops and radio stations. With none other than the Wienerschnitizal truck selling hot dogs. There was also a large grass area where many of the doxies just got together and socialized.

Participants received fun dachshund t-shirts and tickets to see the top 16 run at Del Mar with the horses.

So if you want to come out to the Del Mar Race track and have some fun with the doxies join us on On Labor Day September 5, where the fastest 16 dachshunds (Who qualified August 20), will compete in the San Diego Finals of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals.

Three races will take place on the track in front of the Winners Circle. Two semifinal races will occur after horse races 3 & 5 with the finals occurring after horse race 7.

The Del Mar winner advances to the National final which determines the fastest wiener in the nation.

Don't miss these adorable, free-spirited, low-to-the-ground athletes on their quest for stardom!

You can follow Mila's training update, links to more pictures of the Wiener Nationals,  and just general dachshund doggie musings by following her on facebook at Mila Miesner

And now for your viewing pleasure, Here is a Video of 8 of the top 16 racing together in an exhibition race. You can see this will be an exciting event.
