San Diego Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals

Back from the San Diego Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals.

We had a lot of fun. My brother got to race with me and he came in second out of 4 doxies in our heat. He is a 14 year old dog who has raced before, but this was the first time he crossed the finish line.

It was nice seeing all my friends. Thanks for coming by and saying hi.  It was fun to see many of them make it to the top 16. I ended up with  time of 2.88 seconds. You will all have to come out to the Del Mar Race Track on  Sept. 6 and cheer us all on.

If any one got pictures or videos of the races or dogs let me know where you post them I would love to see them.

The 14th annualWienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals!

Dogs ready to run

You won’t find grey hounds or whippets on this racecourse -- just wiener dogs -- or Daschunds, as they’re officially known. Local Dachshunds, popularly known as “wiener dogs,” will have their day this weekend.

The 14th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals kicks off in San Diego on Saturday, August 28th at Qualcomm Stadium Rugby Fields (Near Section J-5 in the Stadium Parking Lot).

Wienerschnitzel doesn’t have an exact specification on how low-to-the-ground the dog’s carriage has to be, but suffice it to say the typical Dachshund is pretty low.

The miniature Dachshund normally weighs less than 11 pounds and it’s foot-long body is usually sustained by inches-high legs.

Spectators thus can be forgiven this Saturday if, while watching the proceedings, they think of a bunch of running hot dogs — which is exactly what Wienerschnitzel had in mind when conceiving the event. The event and much of the national tour are sponsored by Wienerschnitzel, a fast-food hot dog restaurant.

This event is hysterical to watch. This is a hobby for people who truly love their dogs and any dachshund may participate! These dachshunds will waddle there way to the finish line with comical results, while others will run like the wind, well as least as much as a dachshund can. So if you don’t race come out and watch. You will at least come home with a good story.
