Top 16 Field Set for 2013 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals

2013 wdrecap 610After an intense first round of competition at the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals August 3rd, the field has been narrowed and 16 dachshunds will advance to the San Diego regional final set for September 1st at the Del Mar Race Track. In all, more than 300 dogs took part in the 18th annual event that was held on the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium and serves as a fund-raiser for the non-profit Holiday Bowl.

It was a local standout, Meeko of San Diego, who recorded the fastest time of the day, covering the 53-foot grass track in a time of 2.44 seconds. Truffle, who made the trip down from Costa Mesa, was next at 2.56 seconds. Rounding out the top five fastest dachshunds were Reggie Racer at 2.60 seconds (Corona, Calif.), Presley (Placentia, Calif.), and Alvin (San Diego), who were both clocked at 2.63 seconds.

The winner from the Del Mar regional final will advance to the national championship set for Monday, Dec. 30 prior to the start of the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade. Eight dogs from around the country will compete in the event finale that is shown to a national television audience.

Mila Miesner to race at Del Mar


Mila Miesner has made the top 16 and she will advance to the San Diego final in on where she will race Sunday, September 1st at the Del Mar Race Track. 


She recently got to act in the movie  Wiener Dog Nationals”.  The Movie ties into the upcoming Wiener Dog races which the movie is based on. She has raced in the dachshund races in San Diego for 5 years coming in the top two or three everytime she has raced at Del Mar. She is also the poster dog for the Races up in Los Alamitos. So even though this Movie is fictitious it is one she can relate to.She got to play Shelly Jack a runt of a dachshund from a shelter a  family adopts and Only time will tell if little 'Shelly' and her new family are up for the challenges of entering the nation's greatest wiener dog race, Wienerschnitzel's 'Wiener Dog Nationals.' 

The movie has been a very big splash in the Dog and Kid world and Mila would like to share this Movie with her Fan. So come down and watch her race  She will have a picture of the cover of the movie with her very own paw print on the back.

Wiener Dog National Races in San Diego

Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals - Have come to San Diego.

The Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl invites you to join them Saturday, August 3rd, at Qualcomm Stadium for the 17th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. 

The top sixteen dogs from the qualifying round will advance to the San Diego final in on Sunday, September 1st at the Del Mar Race Track. 

The top dog from San Diego will advance to the championship at the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade.
 
This year's finalists will receive the opportunity to march with the Wienerschnitzel float in the nationally televised parade. Any dachshund may participate!


Time:
8 am - Registration/Check-in
9 am - First Races
Location: Qualcomm Stadium Rugby Fields (Near Section J-5 in the Stadium Parking Lot)
